Greedy Cat is Hungry

This week our shared book was Greedy Cat is Hungry by Joy Cowley. We painted our own Greedy Cat and put them up in our classroom. Our letter of the day on Thursday was 'C' so our Greedy Cat art matched perfectly with that too. We are getting so clever at learning different letter sounds.

Our Published Stories - Week 4

Today Room 1 published their stories that they wrote this week. Some children published their stories that they wrote based on a cameo they did with Mrs Walker this week and the other published stories are about cracking open the coconut. I think you did a great job Room 1. I love all the juicy words you used to make your stories exciting for your readers to read. Miss Gentil

Coconut for Letter C

Today our letter of the day was 'c'. Miss Gentil brought in a coconut for us to hold and taste. We put a hole in the coconut using a knife, to drain the coconut milk. Then we cracked the coconut open with a hammer. We each got to taste a piece of coconut. After we ate the coconut we wrote stories about our experience. Published stories to come soon.

Reading Must Do and Can Do Activities

In Room 1 when we're not reading with Miss Gentil or Mrs Walker we work independently on 'must do' and 'can do' activities. Today our 'must do' activity was to do with our letter of the day. We practised tracing and writing the letter 'c' and then coloured in a picture of a cat on a couch. The 'must do' activity is the activity that we do first; then we choose from the 'can do' activities. Today's can do activities were puzzles, sandpaper letters, making the letter of the day with play dough and reading stories from our book box with puppets.

You're such awesome readers Room 1!! Mrs Walker and I are very proud of you all.

Miss Gentil's Pet Chickens Come to School

Today Miss Gentil brought her chickens into school for a visit. We each got a turn to pat and hold the chickens. Then we wrote about them for writing time. We have been learning to use juicy words in our stories. Once we have published our stories tomorrow we will share them on the blog.

Using Juicy Words

We have been learning to use juicy words in our writing to make it interesting to read.
Last week Mrs Walker brought in a nest for us to hold and feel. We watched a video all about how nests are made and then went outside to look for things to make our own nest. Sticks, mud and straw make snuggly nests!
Next we discussed words to describe what our nests looked, felt and smelt like. We learnt to use words like prickly and soft in our writing. You can read our fantastic stories that we wrote with Mrs Walker, and published with Miss Gentil, on our blog.
Today we felt, smelt and squished up empty honeycomb from a beehive. It smelt delicious like honey!

Stories About Our Bird Nest

This week Mrs Walker brought in a nest for us to write about. Today we published our stories with Miss Gentil. Miss Gentil typed up our sentences and pasted them into our publishing books. Then we were given a cut up sentence. We had to put the words in the correct order to match our sentence in our book. Then we drew a picture to go with our stories. We have been learning to use exciting, juicy words this week. Here are our stories about the bird nest.

Please note that the 'and' is up the correct way now. We will update the photo soon.
